Ethics & Sustainability

Our Mission

Desert Lily Vintage has a passion for crafting timeless, elegant and functional fashion pieces that will inspire women to have confidence in who they are. Comfortability, affordability and sustainability in front of mind with every design, sourcing only natural fabrics through suppliers or upcycling statement prints from opportunity shops - supporting locals and the environment. There is a profound issue within fast fashion and how it impacts the environment, as well as our mental health as sizes are never consistent.

Thus, Desert Lily Vintage strives to give all figures the chance to be accentuated with classic pattern making techniques that compliment the way our bodies are - the pieces fit you and not you fitting the pieces. We have always had the dream to push for positive change within the fashion industry, so now is our time to deliver Australian Made and sourced collections that are tailored to any figure.

BRAND VALUES

Sustainability

Size Inclusivity

Timeless

Empowered

As a sustainable fashion brand we are also aware of the detrimental impact that the fashion and textile industry have on the planet, with a reported estimated one tenth of the contribution to the global greenhouse gas emission according to the 2019 World Bank Report.

Due to these factors it’s important that we follow the slow fashion practices that centre around quality over quantity, so that we do not add to the environmental impact negatively. Our practices consist of a "made to order" system where the customer has 100% creative freedom to choose their fabric option and individual garment, which is then made for them. We also offer small batch manufacturing for wholesale purchases where the customer can choose a colour palette and from a range of one-of-a-kind vintage fabrics.

Reducing our waste as a fashion brand is also really important to us and therefore the scraps are made into scrunchies, hair ties, pocket squares for the organic tees in the Basics Collection and lastly yoga bolsters which are sold locally (If you would like to purchase one connect with us via the contact form).

Our Fabrics

At Desert Lily Vintage, we are passionate about circular fashion economy and closing the fashion loop, with a focus on cruelty free materials combined with a zero waste philosophy.

Our vintage cottons and polycottons are responsibly sourced from Op Shops and second-hand sellers in the form of genuine vintage bed linen from around Queensland, Australia. It is our belief that we can have the largest impact within the fashion space by utilising materials that are already in circulation to be reimagined into our signature styles. All of the second-hand vintage bed linen are washed using a natural laundry detergent from The Dirt Company and air dried before they are ready for the cutting table.

Our high-quality linens are sourced from The Fabric Store in Brisbane, QLD with a focus on remanent and dead stock to reduce our ecological footprint even further.

Our organic T-shirts are made of soft organic GOTS, Fair Wear Foundation and PETA Approved Vegan certified cotton and manufactured ethically. We have sourced them for you from Organic Tees a wholesaler in Mullumbimby, NSW.

Sewing accessories like threads, garment labels and elastics etc. Are sourced though M.Rech a long standing go-to accessory supplier for the Australian fashion industry since establishment in the 1950's.

The Studio

From the design concept – pattern development and manufacturing each piece from the Desert Lily Vintage collection is produced by the designer in house within our Innes Park studio located in Bundaberg, QLD (Gureng Gureng Country). As the label grows and future sewist's are employed locally we commit to paying staff above the legal living wage to support team members with current and future economic pressures.
